Jordan Pefok’s lack of a starting role at Union Berlin has reportedly led to a fellow Bundesliga competitor pushing to acquire him for the remainder of the current season.
Borussia Moenchengladbach is sealing a season-long loan move for Pefok, Sky Sports reported Wednesday. Pefok’s deal would also include a purchase option of roughly €5 million, according to the report.
The 25-year-old Pefok joined Union Berlin ahead of the 2022-23 Bundesliga campaign and proceeded to total five goals and three assists in 42 combined appearances. He started off the season strong but mainly served as a substitute during the second half of the season.
Prior to his move to Germany, Pefok enjoyed plenty of success with Swiss Pro League club Young Boys. He scored 42 goals in 88 combined appearances for Young Boys, including scoring twice in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
The American-born striker also played for Stade Reims, Rennes, and Chateauroux in France.
A former French youth national team player, Pefok switched his allegiance to the USMNT and since has earned nine caps. His lone international goal came in a 1-0 Concacaf Nations League semifinal victory over Honduras in 2021.
Gladbach has yet to win this season in Bundesliga play and next hosts Bayern Munich on Saturday. Pefok’s move to Borussia Park would unite him with USMNT teammate Joe Scally.
