As German Champions’ League representatives 1. FC Union Berlin seek to bounce back from a defeat against rivals Leipzig on the last Bundesliga matchday, Urs Fischer’s side continue to struggle with injuries in their ranks. Attacker Sheraldo Becker – as reported by both German tabloid “Sport Bild” and Germany’s Kicker Magazine – is carrying both a thigh and calf injury. The Dutch-Suriname striker has only been able to train individually with the ball.
Kicker Magazine journalist Mattias Koch reports that Becker likely remains a doubt for the upcoming league fixture against Wolfsburg and the Champions’ League debut against Real Madrid. Captain and midfield talisman Rani Khedira also hasn’t been able to make much progress after a calf injury incurred in the DFB Pokal round left him on crutches.
Supporting attackers Andras Schäfer and Janik Haberer are both on the comeback trail, yet haven’t been able to train fully during the international break. Koch notes that those two also probably won’t be ready in time for the tough matches ahead. Koch does have some good news to report in the form of midfielder Lucas Tousart’s recovery. The new summer acquisition looks to be integrated back into team training next week.
