A Tottenham Hotspur star has been urged to consider his options ahead of signing a new contract in north London.
Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane ‘has to seriously contemplate’ his Hotspur Way future after a string of inconsistent results, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
Although Spurs completed the loan acquisition of Arnaut Danjuma and sealed Pedro Porro’s arrival in a deal which includes an obligation to be made permanent for £39million last month, head coach Antonio Conte’s side still find themselves outside of the Premier League’s top four.
Tottenham transfer news – Harry Kane
According to the Daily Mail, Kane has been identified as one of Manchester United’s top striker targets ahead of the transfer window reopening in the summer.
The report suggests Tottenham will be unwilling to sell their talisman for less than £85million, but the Red Devils have already opened exploratory talks and he would be open to making the move to Old Trafford.
Manchester United are not Kane’s only suitors as Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Sempre Inter, have revealed acquiring his services is Bayern Munich’s priority.
But, in a boost for Spurs, the England international captain is willing to sign a new contract as long as the club’s ambitions match his own and certain targets are met during the remainder of the campaign.
Kane entered the final 18 months of his current agreement, which is worth £200,000-per-week, at the turn of the year.
What has Dean Jones said about Kane?
Jones believes Kane needs to seriously consider his options as Tottenham’s 4-1 defeat to Leicester City last weekend, which followed a 1-0 win over reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, set alarm bells ringing.
The respected journalist feels the performance at the King Power Stadium showed the north Londoners may not be able to challenge for silverware on a consistent basis.
Jones told GiveMeSport: “Before he signs a new contract, I think he has to seriously contemplate whether Tottenham are ever going to be capable of getting to the level that he hopes they are.
“No matter what they do, there’s no plan that follows it up. They go and beat Manchester City, which is one of the biggest results they’re going to get all season, and a week later they lose 4-1 to Leicester. There’s no explaining that and the performances were so far apart.
“They had a lot of bad news in between with injury news and Conte has had his own problems, but there are a lot of underlying issues here.”

How has Kane performed so far this season?
Kane has found the back of the net 19 times and registered a further three assists in 32 appearances this season, according to Transfermarkt.
His winning goal during the victory over Manchester City earlier this month was particularly memorable as it allowed him to move beyond Jimmy Greaves and become the top goalscorer in Tottenham’s entire history.
Kane is now closing in on Alan Shearer, who remains the Premier League’s leading marksman after getting his name on the scoresheet on 260 occasions.
Sofascore data shows the 29-year-old has been averaging a top flight goal every 121 minutes this season, which emphasises how valuable he has been to Spurs.
CBS reporter Ben Jacobs recently told GiveMeSport that Kane’s priority is to renew his contract at Tottenham, which will be music to the ears of every supporter and Conte as he looks to break even more records.
