Newcastle United could show they mean business by winning the race for a sought-after Bundesliga star, it has been claimed.
Newcastle United could make a ‘real statement signing’ by luring Eintracht Frankfurt star Daichi Kamada to St James’ Park this summer, journalist Pete O’Rourke has told GiveMeSport.
Having completed the £45million acquisition of Anthony Gordon last month, Magpies head coach Eddie Howe will be handed another opportunity to bolster his squad in the coming months.
Newcastle transfer news – Daichi Kamada
According to 90min, Newcastle are among a host of clubs weighing up a move for Kamada after keeping tabs on his situation at Frankfurt.
The report suggests the Tyneside giants are facing competition from Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund for the Japan international’s services.
Transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport that Kamada is also on Everton’s radar and refused to rule out the possibility of the Merseyside outfit looking to pounce if they remain in the Premier League.
The attacking midfielder entered the final six months of his Frankfurt deal at the turn of the year, meaning he is now able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a club outside of Germany.
It is understood that Kamada is not in advanced negotiations with any of his suitors at this stage, while a final decision on his future will be made in due course.
What has Pete O’Rourke said about Kamada?
O’Rourke is aware that Howe has set his sights on bolstering his options in the heart of Newcastle’s midfield ahead of next season.
The journalist believes the Magpies would show they mean business if they succeed in beating a host of other sides to the 26-year-old’s signature.
O’Rourke told GiveMeSport: “We do know that Newcastle are looking to improve in their midfield engine room.
“Getting someone like Kamada, who has attracted interest from a number of top clubs, would be a real statement signing.”

Would Kamada be a good signing for Newcastle?
Kamada has been handed an average Bundesliga match rating of 6.99 by WhoScored, a figure which has only been bettered by World Cup finalist Randal Kolo Muani among his Frankfurt teammates, this season.
The former Sagan Tosu talisman has scored 13 goals as well as registering a further five assists in 28 appearances since the campaign got underway.
But Kamada’s defensive work should not be overlooked as Sofascore data shows he is averaging 1.6 tackles per domestic outing.
That will be an attraction for Howe despite his side already being strong at the back, having conceded the fewest Premier League goals this term.
Kamada has racked up 120 goal contributions over the course of his senior club career and there is no doubt that he would be an exciting addition to Newcastle’s squad.
